MemTest

MemTest is a Windows application that allows you to comprehensively check the RAM on your PC using a series of tests. DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 cards are supported, and different types of errors are detected during the diagnostic process. According to the developers, their application is more efficient than regular testing tools - 13 different algorithms are integrated.

Bootable media

To provide deeper testing, the application works outside the operating system. The downloaded image should be written to an ordinary USB flash drive with the help of a special program and booted from it. To create a bootable disk, you can use any program designed for this purpose. There are quite a lot of them, including those from well-known brands. It is worth considering that most tools in the process of loading files on the flash drive completely clean it. Therefore, all important data should be copied to another place beforehand.

Checking

If the drive is properly prepared and the boot priority settings are correct, when the PC is turned on, control will be transferred to the utility, which will immediately run a test to check the memory locations. At this stage, a sequential write to a specific memory location is initiated, followed by a read. For each operation statistics is collected, any deviations from the normal mode are recorded. This allows detecting problematic sectors. Problematic blocks can be specified for retesting. ECC RAM scanning is supported, while automatic correction of found errors is performed. All information is collected in a log that can be saved on the hard disk. It is a plain text document that can be opened in any editor for further analysis.
