HijackThis

HijackThis is a Windows application to search for malicious code. It supports scanning the system registry and checking the HOST file for dangerous entries. After scanning, a detailed report is generated and it is possible to manually select items for removal.

Scanning

The application is implemented as a portable version, all tools are available without installation. After launching the program, you need to run a full system scan. A separate section displays a list of processes that use various schemes to ensure their automatic loading at system startup. This behavior often indicates malicious activity. System registry entries are also checked at this stage. Analyzing such markers allows you to identify viruses that are commonly categorized as adware and malware.

Removal

It should be taken into account that this application does not have a mechanism for removing detected dangerous programs. The user has to independently examine the received report and make a decision to manually remove certain elements. Therefore, it is recommended to approach this stage with caution, as the removal of important system components may negatively affect its performance. If the application identifies a reliable component as suspicious, you can manually add it to the whitelist. You can open the built-in Task Manager to view the list of active processes. The resulting report can be uploaded to a text file for further study.
